Eurosatory 2006 will undoubtedly be the
most important global gathering of land and land-air defense
equipment manufacturers in 2006.
Defense Update coverage of Eurosatory
2006, for the first time, includes a preview of some exhibits,
primarily systems and new products brought to Eurosatory by
Israeli companies. Our post show review will include a broader
coverage of companies from all countries (check the
2004 review for
example). We also invite all exhibitors to send their
announcements and products preview for consideration for
publication prior and during the show.
Among the new systems to be reviewed
will be the new Peace Support Operations (PSO) version of the
Leopard 2 tank, to be unveiled at the show.

The current preview includes:
Armored combat vehicles, systems and
technologies, (to include new active protection systems, from
RAFAEL and
IMI (picture below),
threat detection and warning systems, advanced armor protection,
counter IED systems and technologies, new
developments of wheeled armored vehicles, new types of ammunition,
including KE anti-tank, multi-purpose HE-MP and a new 120mm
version of the anti-material, Anti-personnel round which is
scheduled to enter operational service soon. Other highlights
include new optronics, and
battle management systems for AFVs.

Fire support and deep strike
capabilities will cover
autonomous artillery systems, MLRS improvements, advanced
munitions, and surface attack missiles capable of hitting point
targets from ranges beyond 250 kilometers. (Info will be coming

Intelligence, surveillance,
reconnaissance and command and control (C4ISR) will be discussed
in details, with status reports about all major programs on
display. Additional coverage will be provided on new intelligence
processing systems, and new net centric
initiatives, from battlefield management systems, communications
equipment to satellite imaging, EW countermeasures etc.
Unmanned systems will include, for the
first time, coverage of ground and aerial systems, as well as
remotely controlled sensors and weapon stations. The discussion of
unmanned systems will also cover the supporting systems, including
payloads, guidance and control, communications and sensor output
dissemination to the warfighter.
A special coverage will be devoted to
infantry systems, updating the status of Israeli infantry combat
systems, Tavor assault rifle program, optical sights and special
munitions. Further coverage will be provided to personal equipment
and protection.
Part of the Israeli companies are
located at the Israeli national pavilion organized by SIBAT,
others are located throughout the exhibit halls and at the static
