iRobot Tracks acknowledged as 'Trade Secret' in Court
The District Court for the District of Massachusetts
granted in part a request for preliminary injunction in a lawsuit
filed by iRobot against former employee Jameel Ahed and his
company Robotic FX, Inc., prohibiting use of critical features
incorporated in Roboticc FX's Negotiator robot. The court assessed
that the manufacturing process of tracks used with iRobot PackBot
robots qualify as 'trade secret'. The actual trial is set to
begin within five months. iRobot filed a separate lawsuit against
Robotic FX in Northern Alabama for the infringement of two patents.
The raw between the two companies escalated last month, as Robotic
recently won over a quarter billion US Army contract to supply
thousands of xBot combat robots. Last month the Army withheld
the contract pending reassessment of Robotic's situation.
