2008 Looks Good for German AFV Manufacturer Krauss Maffei Wegmann (KMW)

In 2008 KMW's turnover increased by €100 million above 2007, to sales of over €1.4 billion in 2008. The company reports an order backlog of €2.7 billion; over 70 percent of these are export related. Employment levels at KMW remained stable in 2008 with overall number of employees increased to 3,400 with 200 new hires.

Much of the stability in 2008 was contributed by KMW's export sales, primarily to European, NATO and NATO associated nations. To exploit these opportunities the company established a strong networking of partnership, throughout Europe. A new German-Italian partnership with IVECO Defense Vehicles was established in 2008 for the development and joint marketing of the six-wheel GFF4 and four-wheel VTMx. A service partnership was also established with the Polish company, Bumar Labedy, as well as a cooperation agreement with ST Kinetics in Singapore will support the company's products in these new target markets, where ex-German Army tanks are currently operated.

The company also operates through subsidiaries in markets such as Greece, the Netherlands and the United States and has partnerships in Spain with General Dynamics Santa Barbara Systemas, in Italy with Oto Melara, in Australia with BAE Systems, in the USA with L3 Communications and in Germany with Daimler, Diehl, EADS, MAN and Rheinmetall.
