Israel Promotes Smaller, Better CAEW

Aero-India, 12/2/2009: While the Indian Air Force (IAF) is awaiting the deliveries of two Airborne early Warning Il-78 aircraft, the air force is considering augmenting these aircraft with smaller, more agile and cost effective platforms, such as the G550 CAEW produced by Gulfstream and Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI). The Israelis are flew to India directly from Israel, demonstrating the long range and endurance of the twin-jet G550, claimed to be superior to the much larger four-engine IL-78. According to the Israeli data, the CAEW has an endurance of nine hours, while IL-78 can stay on station for up to six hours. The Israeli aircraft is currently operational with the air forces of Israel and Singapore.
