The Bulgarian Ministry of Defense intends to terminate a contract
for the upgrading of attack and assault helicopters awarded
to Elbit Systems in 2004 but faced serious obstacles immediately
after the selection was announced due, primarily to Russian
objection to the deal, causing delays and obstacles to the programme's
progress. The issue was resolved during recent meetings between
Bulgarian Minister of Defence Vesselin Bliznakov and Elbit chief
executive Josef Ackerman.

The U.S. Missile Defense Agency and Lockheed Martin (NYSE:
LMT) conducted a successful flight test of The Terminal High
Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) weapon system successfully intercepted
a missile target with a direct hit over the Pacific Missile
Range Facility (PMRF) on Kauai, Hawaii, on January 26. The flight
test demonstrated the operation of the entire THAAD system,
including the radar, launcher, fire control and communications
and interceptor operations. The recent test was the first in
a series of intercepts to be tested at the PMRF scheduled for
the next 24 months leading to operational fielding in fiscal
year 2009.

The Israel air force plans to spend about US $100 million to
replenish the inventory of precision guided weapons used during
the month long conflict with Hezbollah in Lebanon. This procurement
will exercise options to buy JDAM
weapon under a 2004 contract for the procurement of up to 5,000
JDAMs of different types.

BAE
Systems has received a SEK 100 million (US$ 14 million) contract
from the Swedish Defence Materiel Administration for the next
phase of the Archer program, supporting continued development
of the gun system and the product definition phase on ammunition
supply vehicle and modular charges.

International Trucks and Engines Team with Plasan Sasa to provide
protected Mine Resistant, Ambush protected vehicles. International’s
trucks utilize a modular concept to armor its trucks for the
MRAP bid.
The design maintains the standard chassis to ensure commonality
and enable worldwide support, while assembling the modular,
v-shaped crew compartment hull on top. In March 2007 the company
will deliver to the U.S. Marines four vehicles for testing.

The U.S. Navy awarded yesterday over half billion US$ for continued
detailed design of the Zumwalt class destroyer, DDG-1000. Northrop
Grumman Corporation (NYSE: NOC) was awarded US$268 million and
General Dynamics' Bath Iron Works was awarded $257 million,
bringing the total value spent on the new class' design to $644
million.

The U.S. Navy took delivery of the first Airborne Laser Mine
Detection System (ALMDS) pod developed and produced by Northrop
Grumman Corporation (NYSE: NOC). The ALMDS system is designed
to operate from the MH-60S helicopter, using a Laser Imaging
Detection and Ranging blue-green laser to detect, localize and
classify near surface, moored and floating sea mines. The U.S.
Navy plans to field up to 45 ALMDS systems between 2009 and
2018.

Lockheed Martin (NYSE: LMT) was awarded an $8.7 million contract
to develop a Low Profile Mast sensor system for the U.S. Navy's
Virginia Class submarines. The total contract value with all
options exercised could be $70 million dollars. The new sensor
mast is designed for open sea and littoral operations, decreasing
counter detection probability.

iRobot Corp. (NASDAQ:IRBT) was awarded a $16.58 million order
for the delivery of more than 100 explosive-detection robots.
Initial shipments are expected to be delivered during the first
half of 2007 to U.S. military units deployed in Iraq. The PacBot
500 robots will be equipped with the Fido explosive-detection
technology developed by ICx Technologies. These sensors detect
explosives' vapors emanating from Improvised Explosive Devices
(IEDs).

CyTerra,
a L-3 Communications (NYSE: LLL) subsidiary received a U.S.
Army follow-on order worth about US$40 million to provide several
thousand AN/PSS-14 advanced mine detection systems. The purchase
is the second order placed by the U.S. Army under a ten year,
full rate production contract for up to 17,000 units with an
anticipated value in excess of $300 million. To date, L-3 CyTerra
has delivered more than 3,000 AN/PSS-14 mine detecting sets
to the U.S. Army and U.S. Marine Corps under this and other
contracts. The initial order, announced in August 2006, was
for more than $24 million of systems.

Armor Holdings, Inc. (NYSE: AH) will supply Gunner Protection
Kits (GPK) and supplemental armor components to increase IED
protection levels of tactical wheeled vehicles fielded in Southwest
Asia. The company was awarded $44.1 million order, in addition
to a previous order value to $75.8M bringing the total orders
of these components under the part indefinite delivery / indefinite
quantity (IDIQ) US Army (TACOM) contract to $93.7 million.

A Joint Intelligence Operations Center (JIOC) supporting both
Afghan and Pakistani forces monitoring the Afghan-Pakistani
border was opened at ISAF headquarters at Kabul, Afghanistan
January 25, 2007.
At the new center, Afghan and Pakistani military officers are
working side by side in one facility to support joint campaign
planning for operations, intelligence, technical exchange of
counter improvised explosive device information and information
operations. |
