| EADS Defence
& Security Systems will provide the tri-national Medium
Extended Air Defence System (MEADS) with T/R modules forming
the system's fire control radar, under a € 120 m. The company
is expected to deliver more than 40,000 modules within the next
two years, to support the design and development of the new
radar.

| To sustain
the accelerated production the company established a "MicroWaveFactory",
supporting dedicated RF chip production foundry and automated
clean room production facility at its production site near the
city of Ulm, Germany. The company is supplying standard, modular
T/R units for other Active Electronically Scanning Array (AESA)
radars, such as the CAESAR airborne fire control radar, and
spaceborne TerraSAR, the TCAR area surveillance radar for NATO
and the German ground surveillance program BÜR. The various
applications operate in the X-band and require only minor adaptation
to utilize the common core of the T/R modules, thereby reducing
the development risk, schedules and production costs
MEADS is a joint program of Germany, Italy and the US aiming
at the development of a mobile air defense system countering
new threats and replacing older equipment. The $ 3.5 billion
design and development phase has been launched in 2005 in order
to produce four fire control radar prototypes by 2012 to 2014.
