IDF Pre-Deploys Iron Dome C-RAM in an Effort to Contain Palestinain Rocket Attacks
Reluctant to embark on a major retaliatory campaign against Gaza, the Israel Air Force was directed to pre-deploy the ‘Iron Dome’ counter-rocket, artillery and mortar (C-RAM) defense system, despite the military reluctance for such move, before the unit is fully prepared. The current fielding is defined as an ‘operational evaluation’ prior to becoming ‘fully operational capable’. (Read More...)

Improved Patriot PAC-3 Scores Another Hit
Lockheed Martin conducted a second successful intercept of a threat representative tactical ballistic missile target using the PAC-3 Missile Segment Enhancement (MSE) at the White Sands Missile Range, N.M. The first intercept conducted by PAC-3 MSE was performed in February 2010. “We continue to test the PAC-3 MSE Missile at higher altitudes and against more challenging targets, and it continues to meet expectations,” said Richard McDaniel, director of PAC-3 Missile Programs at Lockheed Martin Missiles and Fire Control. “We look forward to delivering this important enhanced capability to the warfighter in the near future.” (Read More...)

Despite Test Range Success – Iron Dome Is Not Operational Yet
The Israel Air Force’s first Iron Dome counter Rocket, Artillery and Missile (C-RAM) system has passed a significant milestone last week, with the first Iron Dome battalion performing successful, intercepts of multiple targets simulating five different operational scenarios of threats fired at different trajectories and ranges. Following the successful induction process, the Iron-Dome battalion is expected to be announced operationally ready within the upcoming weeks – several months after the scheduled deployment plan. Advanced Arrow-2 Intercepts Shihab III Surrogate Target over the Pacific Ocean
The joint U.S.-Israel Arrow Weapon System successfully intercepted a ballistic target missile today, during a flight test conducted over the Pacific Ocean. The test was part of the Arrow System Improvement Program (ASIP), conducted jointly by the Israel Missile Defense Organization and the U.S. Missile Defense Agency. (Read More...)

MBDA Introduces a Multi-Layered, Tactical Air Defense System
MBDA has unveiled an integrated air-defense system combining the Short-Range Air Defense Mistral and VL MICA missiles. The two systems are controlled from a unified, Improved Missile Control Post (IMCP) which integrates, both system’s command and control within a single shelter. According to MBDA, the new integrated system has already been selected by a first customer with first deliveries expected in 2014. (Read More...)
