Advanced Precision Kill Weapon System (APKWS)
Raytheon
|
|
Raytheon's proposed APKWS
system uses a modified forward section, which comprises of the
semi-active laser seeker, warhead and fuse and guidance assembly
(canards and control elements). With the dramatic improvement in
accuracy, the system offers superior effectiveness compared to
both Hydra 70 unguided weapons (extending effective range from 1
to 6 km) and providing high kill probability of point targets The
Army is planning to field the improved precision rockets with the
current unmodified weapons. Due to its lightweight and high
precision APKWS is also considered as an optional future weapon
for an array of autonomous systems including land based unmanned
ground vehicles (UGV), unmanned surface vessels (USV) and unmanned
aerial vehicles (UAVs).
