Exocet MM40 Block 3
MBDA (Europe)

MM40 Block 3 Exocet anti-ship missile, planned for initial deliveries In 2006. Currently in full scale development, the missile is designed as a replacement of existing Block 2 missiles on surface ships. MBDA did not mention if these upgrades will also be compatible with the submarine launched system of the Exocet. According to MBDA, the Block 3 will use and optimize the airframe with low signature characteristics, and new propulsion system to extend its operational range to 180 km. The system will be complemented by a new mission planning software that will improve the missile's capability to penetrate the target'' defense systems. The Block 3 will be able to approach the target following a preplanned 3D flight trajectory, with terminal attacks from different azimuths at very low sea skimming altitude.

For the terminal phase guidance, the missile will utilize a J-band active radar seeker with adaptive search patterns which will discriminate selective targets at sea and GPS designated coastal based targets. The propulsion system will include a single booster and turbojet sustainer, feeding from four air intakes which will provide high maneuverability at the terminal phase.
